Union Government holds Kathina ceremony

THE Union government held a Kathina ceremony yesterday morning at Sasana Maha Beikman, Uppatasanti Pagoda, in Nay Pyi Taw and was attended by President U Win Myint, First Lady Daw Cho Cho and State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

The event was graced by members of the Sangha led by State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Chairman Bhamo Monastery (Mandalay) Padana Nayaka Abhidhaja Maharattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika Bhamo Sayadaw Dr. Bhaddanta Kumarabhivamsa. The event was also attended by Vice President U Myint Swe and wife Daw Khin Thet Htay, Amyotha Hluttaw peaker Mahn Win Khaing Than’s wife Daw Nant Kyin Kyi, Union Chief Justice U Htun Htun Oo, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, Constitutional Tribunal of the Union Chairman U Myo Nyunt and wife, Union Election Commission Chairman U Hla Thein and wife, Deputy Commander-in-Chief and Commander-in-Chief (Army) of the Defence Services Vice Senior General Soe Win and wife, Pyithu Hluttaw Deputy Speaker U Tun Tun Hein and wife, Union Ministers, Union Attorney General, Union Auditor General, Union Civil Service Board Chairman, Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman and their wives, JointChief of Staff (Army/Navy and Air Force), Nay Pyi Taw Command commander, Deputy Ministers, Nay Pyi Taw Council members, departmental heads and officials.

Before the start of the event, State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi offered soon (a day meal) in an emerald bowl, flowers and water to Buddha image in the Sasana Maha Beikman.

Next, President U Win Myint and First Lady Daw Cho Cho, State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and guests took the Five Precepts from State Sangha Maha Nayaka Chairman Bhamo Sayadaw and listened to the chanting of parittas by the Sayadaw and Sanghas.

The State Counsellor then presented offertories to State Sangha Maha Nayaka Chairman Mandalay Bhamo Monastery Padana Nayaka Abhidhaja Maharattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika Bhamo Sayadaw Dr. Bhaddanta Kumarabhivamsa followed by Vice President U Myint Swe and wife, Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker Mahn Win Khaing Than’s wife Daw Nant Kyin Kyi, Chief Justice of the Union U Htun Htun Oo, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and wife who presented offertories to Sayadaw and Sanghas.

Later, Constitutional Tribunal Chairperson U Myo Nyunt and wife, Union Election Commission Chairman U Hla Thein and wife, Vice Senior General Soe Win and wife, Pyithu Hluttaw Deputy Speaker U Tun Tun Hein and wife, Union Ministers, Union Attorney General, Union Auditor General, Union Civil Service Board Chairman, Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman, Joint-Chief of Staffs (Army, Navy and Air Force), Nay Pyi Taw Command’s commander and Deputy Ministers presented offertories to Sayadaw and Sanghas.

Finally, President and First Lady, State Counsellor and guests listened to the sermon of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Akyodawsaung, Yangon Region Thanlyin Minkyaung Pahtamapyan Pariyatti Monastery chairman Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Sandima Bivamsa and shared merits for the donations.

After the event, President U Win Myint, First Lady Daw Cho Cho, State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and guests offered soon to the Members of the Sangha led by State Sangha Mahanayaka Chairman Bhamo Sayadaw.

In the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Kathina ceremony Ks 85,339,950 worth of offertories were donated.
